Residence permit

Students who need to apply for a residence permit for Denmark should notice the following:

  1. In order to apply for a residence permit for Denmark, students must document that they have paid the required tuition fee.
  1. You cannot apply for a residence permit for Denmark before you have received the admission letter and the “ST1” form from the university.
  1. The processing of your application for a residence permit takes up to 3 months. This means that you must apply for a residence permit immediately after receiving the documents from the university in order to receive your permit in due time before coming to Denmark.
  1. The Danish Immigration Service will not process your application for a residence permit before you have paid the required tuition fee. Thus students, who are required to pay a fee and need to apply for residence permit, must pay the admission fee immediately after receiving the admission letter in order to receive their residence permit in due time.
  1. With the letter of admission and the “ST1” you can only apply for a residence permit from the day your studies commence. The university cannot help you apply for a residence permit for an earlier period
  1. With the letter of admission and the ”ST1” you can apply for a residence permit for studying at the university which issued the letter of admission and the ”ST1”. If you are no longer actively studying at the university you cannot uphold your residence permit. The university will inform The Danish Immigration Service if you are no longer actively studying at the university.
  1. The students themselves are responsible for the application process. The university has no influence on the process.
