The Department of Culture and Identity carries out research and teaching in Danish, English, French, German, History, Philosophy, Theory of Science and Cultural Encounters. The department also includes a two year general Basic Studies Programme in the Humanities.
The research profiles of the department are:
Philosophy: history of philosophy and science, theory of science, philosophy of science, ethics and legal philosophy.
History: particularly culture-historical research with special emphasis on society’s multifarious use of history, the world of ideas and power relations of the past and social structures during changing historical terms. Naval history is also a research profile.
Language and Culture: systematic description and analysis of the forms, function and change of language, literature, culture and media in society as well as how an insight into language, literature, culture, cultural encounters and media can be communicated and learned.
In addition, the research at the department is characterised by increasingly supplying and further developing a number of interdisciplinarary perspectives and approaches.
